Up to 48% of all Koalas in Australia are infected with chlamydia. It’s one of the leading causes of death for Australian Koalas, and if left untreated, it can lead to infertility and permanent blindness.
Being in the wrong place at the wrong time nearly cost me my life. I was trying to cross a busy highway when I was hit by a car, which meant I suffered major abdominal trauma.
It was a terrifying experience, but luckily I was brought to Currumbin Wildlife Hospital where the team gave me life-saving surgery.
Right now, each Koala suffering from chlamydia costs Currumbin Wildlife Hospital approximately $7000 to treat. However, vaccinations (like the one I’ve got!) cost just $42 per Koala.
